MANAGEMENT TIPS

Sowing Depth:

Sowing depth should be no greater than 10mm.

Inoculation:

AM for all except Herald Strand Medic which is AL.

Fertiliser

Soil test should be taken on the paddock prior to planting and adjustment made accordingly.

Sow with phosphorous and potassium based fertiliser, further applications can be applied moisture allowing. If considering cutting for silage or hay a hay booster will increase yields, apply six weeks prior to cutting.

Grazing:

Rotational light grazing within 6 weeks of emergence to reduce weed competition and gradually increase stocking rate as more FOO becomes available. De-stock at flowering to maximise seed set.

  • Earliest maturing aphid resistant barrel medic
  • Good seedling and early vigour
  • Moderate tolerance of soil boron toxicity & mild salinity
  • High hard seed levels
  • Resistant to spotted alfalfa aphid and blue green aphid
  • Suited to areas with as little as 275mm annual rainfall
  • Header harvestable

  • Most waterlogging tolerant annual medic species with tolerance to mild salinity
  • Well adapted to heavy textured soils
  • Can be used for dry-land grazing, hay production and as a legume break crop in a crop rotation
  • More productive and persistent in low rainfall areas than sub-clover
